Custodian

We are looking for a responsible and self-directed person to help make the library a welcoming place. Responsibilities include: Cleaning public and office area, maintaining outdoor grounds areas, assisting with building security, must be able to work independently. Other requirements include the ability to: bend, stoop, and move up to 50 pounds, use commercial cleaning equipment, follow directions, and perform other maintenance tasks. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. $11.87/hour; 14 hours per week; Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 11-6.

Library Director
Manhattan Public Library and North Central Kansas Libraries System located in Manhattan, Kansas is seeking to fill the director position. Manhattan Public Library’s service population is over 54,000 people in a university town with amenities for educational, cultural, and recreational activities. The university enrollment is approximately 20,000. The library receives strong support from the community, as well as from an active friends’ group and a foundation. The architectural award-winning building includes state-of-the-art technology equipment.

The Library Director is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and directing all phases of library operations in accordance with the goals, policies, and budgetary decisions of the Manhattan Public Library (MPL) Board of Directors. MPL’S current annual budget is approximately $2.8 million. The Library Director serves as the principal administrator for the North Central Kansas Library System (NCKLS) to develop member libraries through consulting and training programs, as well as grant distribution. NCKLS members include 40 legally established public libraries, four college/university libraries, seven school districts, one special library, and four outlets. The NCKLS current annual budget is approximately $1.2 million.

A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Library and Information Management from an American Library Association-accredited university is required. Minimum eight years of experience as a professional librarian with progressing levels of library management responsibility including two years of full-time experience in an administrative position. Demonstrated commitment to service excellence with strong communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of current practices in and the ability to apply that knowledge in a public service setting. Must be collaborative, service-oriented, and skilled in the application of new technologies to library services.

Job Description

Salary depends on qualifications and experience and ranges from $86,477 to $102,000.
