Library Assistant 2, Circulation

We are looking for a friendly, customer-focused individual to welcome and assist customers by checking library materials in and out and assisting them with questions and problems concerning borrowing library materials. The selected candidate will also sort and shelve materials. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential skills. The schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends; 16 hours per week; $13.51/hour.

Library Assistant 2, Learning and Information Services

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to provide outstanding customer service to customers of all ages. The primary responsibility of this position is providing customer assistance, reader’s advisory, and supervision in the library’s children’s, teen, and adult service areas. The selected candidate may also assist with programs and special events.

Requires high school degree or equivalent, and at least one year in customer service. Some college or equivalent education is preferred. Experience working with children and teens is beneficial. The schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends; 18 hours per week, $13.51/hour. Must be available year-round including summer and school breaks.

Supervisor 2, Reader’s Advisory

Manhattan Public Library is seeking a Library and Information Services Supervisor who is dedicated to enriching our library and community.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise 6 staff to work at various service points, including Reference, the Technology Center, the Teen Zone, and Children’s, in alignment with library strategic goals and objectives, in cooperation with LIS associate director.
  • Outstanding customer service, including resolving customer problems and complaints.
  • Building security in the absence of library director and associate directors.
  • Manage Readers Advisory activities for Learning and Information Services.

This position requires dedication to diversity and inclusion, planning experience, a passion for connecting the community with their next great read, an understanding of library ethics, technology skills, and instruction ability. This position is a part of the Learning and Information Services department and will work closely with other members of the department. Manhattan Public Library is an innovative and customer-centered organization with a collaborative atmosphere, so the ability to communicate well and work with a team is a must.

Other requirements include at least 50% completion towards a Master’s degree or equivalent in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university and one year of customer service experience. One year of supervisory experience and one year of public library experience are preferred. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) and includes days, evenings, and weekends. The salary is $43,722.62 per year and includes a generous benefits package.

Rotating Books Delivery Driver
Enjoy rural Kansas and help public libraries thrive!  The North Central Kansas Libraries System located in Manhattan, KS is seeking a service-oriented Rotating Collection Van Driver for a part-time, 20-hour week position that includes 8-hour day shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 4 additional hours in the office that can be more flexible. Responsibilities include loading and unloading the delivery van, and delivering books to libraries in a 12-county region.  Requires high school diploma or equivalent, clean Kansas driver’s license, ability to take day trips out of town, must be able to move 50-pound sacks of books short distances as well as move loaded carts on a van lift that can weigh up to 320 pounds., follow directions, work independently and perform other tasks.  Hourly wage is $13.51.  Benefits include KPERS retirement, paid holidays, medical and annual leave.
