Stars Above Us by Geoffrey Norman, illustrated by E. B. Lewis

This is a lovely picture book about the special relationship between fathers and daughters.  Amanda is afraid of the dark until her dad takes her outside to look at the stars and fireflies.  He points out the Big Dipper and the North Star especially.  Dad tells her that even when he’s deployed they can both see the North Star and think of each other while he’s gone. Together they decorate her bedroom ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars to remind her.  While her father is deployed, Amanda continues to decorate her ceiling with the moon, comets and fireflies.  Their reunion when he comes home is lovely, as she shows him her surprise.  Lewis has created beautiful watercolor illustrations in deep hues and glowing lights.  Recommended for military families and dads and daughters.  Reviewed by Victoria.
